The Program

The Female Leaders of the Americas (FLOTA) Program is a free 10-week virtual exchange program for girls from North and South America. Participants will learn about leadership, language, culture, international relations, and government while interacting with a supportive community of like-minded girls. Our fourth cohort of the program will run from June 10-August 18, 2024 and will require approximately 2-3 hours of work per week.

Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of completion and have an opportunity to pursue further involvement with the FLOTA program by joining the Executive Team.

Who Can Get Involved?

  • Girls aged 13-19 who live in or are originally from any country in North, Central, and South America;

  • Able to dedicate 2-3 hours per week during the program (June 10–August 18, 2024);

  • Have access to a digital device and internet;

  • Be open-minded, respectful, and willing to learn;

  • Have a basic understanding of the English language;

 How It Works

  • Program length: June 10 — August 18, 2023 (about 10 weeks)

  • Program structure: 

       Weeks 1-3: Participants will learn about leadership and interact with like-minded youth from     other countries.

       Weeks 4-7: Participants will select one of three tracks to participate in. They will learn about Language & Culture, International Relations, Law & Human Rights, or Government & Politics in smaller groups, complete fun assignments and participate in occasional Zoom calls.

       Week 8-9: Participants will collaborate with other participants on a final project.

       Week 10: Closing week of the program. Participants will attend a closing ceremony and be rewarded for their hard work.

  • In addition, participants will have the opportunity to participate in live weekly sessions, including movie nights, social hours, guest speaker sessions, and professional development workshops.

Tracks

1. Government & Politics

Participants will learn about the role of government and politics in our everyday life, different systems of government, and the various types of government throughout the Americas and other regions of the world. They will also have the opportunity to learn about political issues and how they impact society.

3. Language & Culture

Participants will learn how to define language and culture and have the opportunity to study other languages and more deeply interact with other participants.

2. International Relations

Participants will learn about what International Relations is, examine the impact of globalization on everyday life, and cover some of the most pressing and controversial issues worldwide.

4. Law & Human Rights

Participants will learn about legal systems throughout the Americas, gain a deeper understanding of human rights, and learn about real world examples that illustrate these principles.
